EFAPCO’s incorporation was approved at the WTO’s recent Executive Committee session held in Quito, Ecuador. “This is great news for our Federation and for Europe’s conference and meetings sector,” said EFAPCO President, Julio Abreu. “It will give EFAPCO a voice, and influence, in the global travel and tourism industry’s most dynamic forum. “One of the main reasons we formed EFAPCO three years ago, was to campaign for proper political and financial recognition of our industry, in particular along the corridors of European power,” Abreu added. “Now we have an opportunity to broaden our vision into global dimensions and to further our promotion of Europe as the world’s foremost congress and business travel destination.” The WTO is one of many key industry organisations taking part in EFAPCO’s General Assembly and Annual Congress in Athens in December. Prof. Carlos Vogeler, President of the WTO’s Affiliate Members Council, is set to make a keynote presentation during the Congress on: “The Evolution of Meetings and Business Tourism around the World”. Two action-packed days of business sessions will focus on many of the challenges currently faced by the MICE industry, worldwide, and by all of the EU’s member states. EFAPCO members across ten member states and many of the Federation’s 60-plus associate members will be joined by key personalities from ICCA, IAPCO, specialist exhibitions like IMEX and EIBTM plus senior representatives from the European Parliament and the European Commission. |
